Frequently Asked Questions

What is Print on Demand?

Print on Demand (POD) is a business model for producing custom products on demand: the production starts only after the customer makes a purchase. With POD, a client can buy custom t-shirts, mugs & hoodies. The order goes directly to us (the print provider), thus freeing you from the need to hold stock of products. This allows avoiding piles of unsold items. We take the responsibility of supplying the products, printing and shipping them directly to your customers. The latest printing technology (Direct to Film) allows you to have no minimum order.

I don’t design but have ideas and want to sell them on T-Shirts. What should I do?
You have a few options: Learn. You could learn all the basic graphic design skills on YouTube or similar, and practice until you are capable of creating decent designs with the correct software. Online. You can fully customize chosen templates or build your shirt design. Hire. You could hire a graphic designer to turn your ideas into designs.
Do I Need To Trademark My Designs?

Not necessarily. Depends on various aspects. Trademarks are legally registered terms (usually business names but also slogans and occasionally logos)that exist to protect a brand from unauthorised use of its brand name or assets. Please refer to our Intellectual Property Policy for more information.

Should I sign my designs, or include a copyright symbol or logo on it somewhere to protect from Copycats?

Copyright symbols, small logos or icons and ‘signing’ your designs won’t deter copycats. It’s usually pretty easy to remove such marks (should they wish to) – but many copycats will proceed regardless – signing and all. All such attempts to deter thievery are unlikely to succeed – so signing your work really comes down to personal preference. Some people think it can look more professional if your design has a small copyright, icon or logo symbol somewhere.

Is there any Besteez branding on the products?

No—we're completely white label. In the near future the order will have your branding on it, so it'll look like it came from you.

How long does products take to be printed?

Besteez’s fulfilment time for production is 2–5 business days. Once a customer pays for your product we order the blank item from our suppliers, we print the item once it gets to our warehouse and ship the item directly to your customer.

Where do you get your products from?

We order from suppliers in Cape Town & Johannesburg. The mugs are ordered from JG Electronics & apparel from FRWD (Headwear & Apparel). We have been working with these companies for many years.

When do I get my profit?

When your customer buys an item on your storefront, few transactions will take place. Your customer will pay us, we'll order the blank item from our suppliers, print the item and you can request your profit. You'll need to send us your bank details to receive your profit.

Where do returns go?

Returns come to our warehouse in Okiep, Northern Cape. Please refer to our Terms of Service for returns.

Where do you ship to?

We ship nationwide in South Africa; however certain areas do take longer as the courier company only services certain areas once or twice per week. In future we will ship to the rest of the world.

What are the Pros & Cons of Print on Demand?

Pros of Print on Demand

  • You don’t need to print anything in bulk. In print on demand, the emphasis is on the “on-demand” part – the printer will only print the product once it’s ordered. This means you don’t have to gamble with your money – you won’t end up with a huge stock of t-shirts with a design that doesn’t sell as well as you’d hoped.
  • You don’t need to buy equipment. Your POD partner takes care of the technical side of the printing process – you don’t need to buy any expensive printing machines, And you don’t need to learn how to print a product either.
  • You can save time on the technical side of running a business. Since your POD partner takes care of the whole technical side of your business, including fulfilling and shipping out your orders, you can concentrate more on the fun side. Invest more time in creating your designs and marketing your store!
  • You can experiment with designs easily. POD also lets you take more risks with the designs you offer – you can easily add new designs to your store and test if your customers love them or not. Since products are printed on-demand, you’re not making a huge investment in something that might not sell in the end. If a design isn’t as popular as you might like, you can easily remove it from your store.
  • You can experiment with different products. You can experiment not only with designs but also with products. At Besteez we offer T-Shirts, Mugs & Hoodies for a variety of niche audiences.
  • It’s easy to establish your brand. A common thing for print on demand services is that they’re white label. This means you can customize your products and packaging with your branding so that when your customers receive their orders, there’s no sign of it coming from a third party service.
  • Take advantage of services and resources. Working with a POD service is a partnership. Your success as a seller is also a success for them. Your print-on-demand partner can help you not only with the technical side of fulfilling your orders, but it can also be a valuable hub of resources to help you start up or grow your business. From free product mockup images, you can use on your store as product photos, to design & even store set-up services.

Cons of Print On Demand

  • You lose control over the fulfilment process. Just like with any drop shipping service, POD means that you don’t see each product yourself, so you have to trust the printer to do their job properly. This is why it’s important to test your products before you start selling to see how they look. It’s possible that you or your customer might receive a damaged item. It could be a manufacturer’s error, fulfilment error, or damaged during shipping. There’s no denying that these things happen for any product manufacturing business. As you already know, we have quality control that the fulfilled products go through. However, as with everything, we might accidentally let through a defective item. If your customer receives a damaged or defective item because of our mistake, we take full responsibility and cover the error at our expense.
  • You depend on your printing partner for products and their availability. We at Besteez work with different suppliers to source products. This means there are a lot of moving parts, and sometimes products may go out of stock or become unavailable.
  • Order fulfilment takes longer. Since every product is printed on-demand, it takes longer to fulfil orders than it would if you already had available stock. As a store owner, you have to manage your customers’ expectations – let them know that each product is printed on demand and that this takes a bit longer than sending out an already made product.
  • Returns management may require more attention. Since you’re working with a third-party service, there’s more to consider when it comes to dealing with situations where your customers might want to return a product. Please refer to our Terms of Service for returns.
